DIGITAL INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

In the first part, the importance and relevance of non-digital instructional materials were already discussed. Digital instructional materials are the resources or materials that teachers use in teaching and learning through the use of modern technology. Digital instructional materials are created to assist students and teachers in the teaching and learning process. Often these materials reside in an electronic repository or digital library for access by educators. It can have broad applications and include everything from snippets of video to full-year textbooks in a digital format along with all the video, audio, text, animation, simulations, and assessments in between. Thus, digital instructional materials can include smaller chunks, such as individual chapters or lessons, allowing for flexibility in the creation, purchasing, distribution, and usage. Digital instructional material may be blurring the traditional division between adopted or core content and supplemental content. Any instructional practice that effectively uses technology to strengthen a student’s learning experience. It emphasizes high-quality instruction and provides access to challenging content, feedback through formative assessment, opportunities for learning anytime and anywhere, and individualized instruction to ensure all students reach their full potential to succeed in their studies and their career. Examples of digital instructional materials used in education include computers, digital cameras, digital microphones, digital camcorders, tablets, laptops, flash drives, scanners, printers, smartphones, monitors, projectors and more.
