Reflection for Role of Technology
What is the roles of technology in teaching and learning?
In this generation, technology is used to support both teachers and learners in teaching and learning. Technology infuses classrooms with digital learning tools which can be useful to both teachers and learners. Technology also links teachers to their students and to professional content, resources, and systems to help them improve their own instruction and personalize learning. It also modernized and improvised the way of teaching-learning environment. It can also democratize information in classrooms as well as help differentiate instruction, particularly for students with special needs. technology allows for such flexibility in learning that is enabling the students to work in a more collaborative manner. There are roles of technology in teaching and learning that will help us classify and they are technology as tutor, technology as a teaching tool and technology as a learning tool. In technology as a tutor, it is where leaners uses the web in learning new lessons. Since technology is accessible anytime, it is easy and handy for learners in this generation to learn through technology-based materials. Since mostly of the topics or information are already uploaded or programmed online, it will be just as easy as one click and the learner can already access the materials needed to learn for his lessons. Most of the people in this generation opted to use technology as their main source of their learning. For example, a child wanted to learn how to bake cupcakes. Today, we already have YouTube and when you search of the topic like learning how to bake cupcakes, there will be several of results that will show up and you'll just choose which one you like or the one that is easy to understand and follow. Even most of the parents in this generation uses technology so their child will learn how to count, the alphabets and sing some nursery songs. Second is technology as a teaching tool. Technology is useful tool of a teacher but it can never replace a teacher. Technology only helps a teacher facilitate and lessen their workload. It is just used by the teacher to make the lesson clearer for the learners. Lastly is technology as a learning tool. Technology is used as a learning tool in a way that it helps the teacher utilize the lessons they are conducting towards the learners. It makes learning easy and effective. It can produce learning outcomes that calls for technology-assisted teaching. Students use technology as learning tool. They facilitate their own academic tasks with the help of technology. The topics given by the teachers have become clearer due to the availability of pictures and videos that are also available in the internet and is also downloadable.
How are you going to use technology when you will become a teacher?
Since we are now in the digital generation, rather than making visual aids written in manila paper or any materials used, I would rather utilize the availability of technology where I will make a presentation in a video or power point and will connect it on a projector or a television. Children's attention span this generation is so little because their attention is already pre-occupied by the gadgets. By using technology in teaching, I can gain the attention of the students since they are more attracted to colorful and entertaining audio-video than plainly written visual aids. It is also much easier for me to convey the lessons to the students and will make them participate throughout the class.
How did technology influence you when you were a student and in your present job now?
Ever since when I was still in elementary, we were already introduced to technology since I was studying in a private school and we also have a computer subject and a complete computer set and some technology-based materials. In my highschool years, I was also studying in a private school where we also have computer class where we were taught to use the web, make and design our own website, how to make and edit simple games and design through adobe photoshop. When I was in college, the institution I graduated was also using technology-assisted teaching-learning where all the classrooms has huge televisions and through the televisions, our professors present his lessons more clearly. When doing our projects and assignments, we also need to use technology. Our assignments and projects were mostly technology-based where we nee to use the internet and encode our assignments and projects before printing our outputs. Now that I am working, I am more exposed to technology since I was working as a bank recon associate and my work was computer-based and we need to use a system on our transactions.
How will you utilize the use of technology when you will become a teacher?
I will utilize the use of technology by making a presentation software where it can complement teaching and stimulate discussion. I will also use technology by making classroom response systems like Google forms or Slido app where students can interact with the teacher. Third is by giving the students an online project and collaboration tools. In this way, the students will use the internet on researching for their project and will use the means of technology by communicating with their groupmates to finish the assigned project. Lastly, I will use technology by making an information visualization. It's just like presentation software but it was more of slide show but in information visualization I will show an informative video or pictures to the students to help my students to think more critically by encouraging them to visually structure information.
